Bringing together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences and animation, Cirque du Soleil’s newest show IRIS begins its run at the Kodak Theater. The show features music by Danny Elfman. Continuing a decade of collaboration with Elfman, Shie contributed his music editorial talents and skills to two of the acts in the show.

Shie was asked to make some last minute music edits and tweaks to the music in a couple of numbers for the new Cirque du Soleil: IRIS, which was scored by Danny Elfman. Shie has been working with Danny Elfman for a decade, but this was his first experience working with Cirque du Soleil: IRIS and the specific challenges and restrictions that a live show presents.

Academy Award winner Errol Morris’s hilarious documentary Tabloid opened in theaters today. This is Shie’s 2nd collaboration with Errol, and his first with composer John Kusiak, who wrote the score.

Shie completed his part on The Raven following four busy weeks along side supervising music editor Del Spiva. In addition, Shie’s music for 100 Miles, the new Howard Hall underwater video has been composed and approved. 100 Miles is the first of two videos by renown cinematographer Howard Hall that Shie is scoring.

The score is by Lucas Vidal, and this is Shie’s second collaboration with Lucas.

After about two years of work, the short documentary, Broken, which Shie produced with director/producer Debra Sugerman, is finally complete and set for its premiere screening at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to co-producing, Shie also composed the score, wrote an original song – Song for Peace – and provided all the postproduction audio services including sound effects editing and serving as the re-recording mixer. This is Shie’s second collaboration with Ms. Sugerman, and his first venture into producing.

Broken is a follow up film to Dear Mr. President, a feature documentary released in 2006 that followed five teenaged Israeli & Palestinian girls who met at Peace Camp, as they take a cross country trip from California to Washington D.C. attempting to meet President George W. Bush. On their journey they explore each other’s points of view and learn about coexistence and peace.

In early 2009, Bessan, one of the five girls who lived in Gaza, was killed when her home was mistakenly destroyed by Israeli tank shells during operation Cast Lead. Broken explores this event and the very real and tragic cost of violence and war.
